And finally… it was my turn. 📸
After weeks of experiences centered around self-care, strength, style and beauty, Patricia stepped in front of my camera for the final chapter of her Woman As Art journey.
But this was never just about a photoshoot.
From the very beginning, Woman As Art was about bringing women together to pour into another woman. To remind her what can sometimes get lost along the way…that she deserves to be cared for, celebrated, seen and reminded of just how beautiful and powerful she truly is.
@theevolvebeautybar gave Patricia a moment of self-care. @fitbodybetterlife reminded her of her strength. @lelecouture helped her step into her style with @kivanci.official . @beautybyaraceli and @beatbyarbella brought the final touches together with gorgeous hair and makeup .
And then I had the honor of capturing it all.
Not a new Patricia.
Not a different Patricia.

The woman who was there all along.

The pieces of Patricia’s Woman As Art journey are finally coming together.
After self-care, strength, and styling, it was time for the finishing touches before she stepped in front of my camera.
Patricia spent the morning being pampered with 💇🏻♀️hair by @beautybyaraceli and 💄makeup by @beatbyarbella , each bringing their talent to create a look that complemented the beautiful pieces selected for her by Leen.
But this experience was never about changing Patricia into someone else. It was about celebrating the woman already there and giving her a moment to sit back, be cared for, and feel beautiful.
And then… it was time.
The hair was done.
The makeup was finished.
The wardrobe was ready.
Now it was my turn. 📸

Today marks 35 years since my family left Damascus, Syria, and arrived in Chicago in search of a new beginning.
I was 13 years old, scared, overwhelmed, and trying to navigate a new country, language, and culture. Watching my parents rebuild their lives from the ground up taught me that success isn’t about where you start, it’s about your willingness to keep moving forward.
Years later, I found myself doing the same. I left Chicago for San Diego, put my science career on hold to raise my children, and eventually discovered my passion for photography. What started as a hobby became a career that allowed me to build a successful studio, work with incredible clients, and see my work featured in national publications.
In 2020, the pandemic closed my studio, and our family moved back to Chicago after 16 years in California. Once again, I found myself starting over. I took a leap of faith, opened a new studio in Oak Brook 5 years ago today and trusted the process.
Today, I stand here as a proud immigrant, business owner of 19 years, wife, mother, daughter, and friend.
My journey is proof that the American dream is still alive. Not because success is handed to you, but because with hard work, faith, determination, and the courage to begin again, incredible things can happen.
Never be afraid to start over. Sometimes that’s exactly where the magic begins.

As Patricia’s Woman As Art journey continued, it was time to step into the world of fashion and styling with @lelecouture , owner and designer of Kivanci Couture @kivanci.official .
This experience was about so much more than choosing beautiful clothing. It was about discovering pieces that reflected Patricia’s personality, confidence, and individuality.
Watching Patricia try on different looks and trust the process was a beautiful reminder that style has the power to transform not just how we look, but how we feel.
Leen thoughtfully selected pieces that would help tell Patricia’s story and bring our vision to life for her portrait experience.
With every fitting, the excitement grew, and Patricia began to see herself through a different lens of confidence, beauty, and possibility.

As part of her Woman As Art journey, Patricia spent time with Laura at Fit Body Better Life @fitbodybetterlife
This experience wasn’t about changing who Patricia is. It was about helping her reconnect with the strength that has always been there.
As women, we spend so much of our lives caring for others that we often forget to invest in ourselves. This session was a reminder that strength comes in many forms…physical, mental, and emotional.
Watching Patricia step outside her comfort zone, challenge herself, and embrace the process was inspiring. Every step of this journey is helping her see herself the way those around her already do: capable, resilient, and worthy.

Another year around the sun… and at this stage, I’m not chasing anything anymore, I’m choosing. Choosing what aligns, what feels right, and what reflects who I’ve worked so hard to become. Everything I’ve built came from staying true to myself, working hard, and not being afraid to do things differently, and I’m really proud of that.
And at this age, I’ve become more intentional with my time and my circle. Less about the big crowds, more about real connection. Smaller, closer, better. I choose who I spend my time with, and I’m not meant to be for everyone… and I’m okay with that.
And the red 👠 it’s intentional. It’s the Year of the fire Horse, I’m a Horse, and an Aries ♈️ so fire on fire. Red just felt right. Strong, confident, and fully in my power.

Happy Birthday to one of the oldest and dearest friendships of my life @arsiak 🤍
I met Arsi when I was 13 years old…a brand-new immigrant from Syria, trying to figure out this whole new world in Chicago. She was visiting her family two doors down for the summer. She had the sweetest Southern accent from Arkansas and the kindest heart. From day one, she made me feel seen, safe, and welcome. We would play outside till the sun came down and sit in-front of my house on the steps and talk about life, hair, makeup….I couldn’t wait for her to visit every summer as she was truly my first friend here.
34 years later… here we are. Still friends. Still growing. Still doing life together as women, as mothers, as creatives 🫶🏼
Some friendships are meant to last a season.
Some are meant to walk with you through every version of you.

I am an immigrant.
I came to this country at 13 years of age from Damascus, Syria not knowing exactly how it would all work out, but believing deeply in the idea of starting over.
My parents left everything familiar behind so we could have opportunity, safety, and a future built on hard work and values. Like so many immigrant families, we didn’t come with entitlement, we didn’t come to take, but we came with gratitude, resilience, and the willingness to work twice as hard. At the age of 16 I had 3 jobs while attending high school.
Immigrants are not a headline or a talking point. We are business owners, caregivers, teachers, artists, builders, and parents raising the next generation of Americans. Especially right now, when immigration is being spoken about with fear and division, I think it’s important to remember this truth: America was built by people who came from somewhere else, carrying hope and determination in their hands.
I am proud of where I come from. I am grateful for the life I’ve built here. And I believe this country is stronger when it remembers that immigrants don’t weaken it but we help build it.
This is my story. And it’s one I’ll always stand behind.
