From the very first phone call, @drakinosun and I were completely aligned on the vision for her maternity session. Everything flowed so naturally, and what made this experience even more special was not only creating beautiful images together, but also gaining a new friend in the process. Dr. Akinosun is a fellowship-trained Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and proud Naperville native. Known for her warm approach and meticulous eye, she combines elite surgical training with a patient-centered philosophy focused on subtle, sophisticated results. There were so many incredible women nominated, making this decision incredibly difficult. But Patricia’s story stayed with us. A mother. A survivor. A provider. 48 ❤️🔥 Another year around the sun… and at this stage, I’m not chasing anything anymore, I’m choosing. Choosing what aligns, what feels right, and what reflects who I’ve worked so hard to become. Everything I’ve built came from staying true to myself, working hard, and not being afraid to do things differently, and I’m really proud of that. And at this age, I’ve become more intentional with my time and my circle. Less about the big crowds, more about real connection. Smaller, closer, better. I choose who I spend my time with, and I’m not meant to be for everyone… and I’m okay with that. And the red 👠 it’s intentional. It’s the Year of the fire Horse, I’m a Horse, and an Aries ♈️ so fire on fire. Red just felt right. Strong, confident, and fully in my power. Happy Birthday to one of the oldest and dearest friendships of my life @arsiak 🤍 I met Arsi when I was 13 years old…a brand-new immigrant from Syria, trying to figure out this whole new world in Chicago. She was visiting her family two doors down for the summer. She had the sweetest Southern accent from Arkansas and the kindest heart. From day one, she made me feel seen, safe, and welcome. We would play outside till the sun came down and sit in-front of my house on the steps and talk about life, hair, makeup….I couldn’t wait for her to visit every summer as she was truly my first friend here. 34 years later… here we are. Still friends. Still growing. Still doing life together as women, as mothers, as creatives 🫶🏼 Some friendships are meant to last a season. Some are meant to walk with you through every version of you. So grateful for you, Arsi. I am an immigrant. I came to this country at 13 years of age from Damascus, Syria not knowing exactly how it would all work out, but believing deeply in the idea of starting over. My parents left everything familiar behind so we could have opportunity, safety, and a future built on hard work and values. Like so many immigrant families, we didn’t come with entitlement, we didn’t come to take, but we came with gratitude, resilience, and the willingness to work twice as hard. At the age of 16 I had 3 jobs while attending high school. Immigrants are not a headline or a talking point. We are business owners, caregivers, teachers, artists, builders, and parents raising the next generation of Americans. Especially right now, when immigration is being spoken about with fear and division, I think it’s important to remember this truth: America was built by people who came from somewhere else, carrying hope and determination in their hands. I am proud of where I come from. I am grateful for the life I’ve built here. And I believe this country is stronger when it remembers that immigrants don’t weaken it but we help build it.
